Cullman, Alabama

The city of Cullman is located in Cullman County in north central Alabama half-way between the cities of Huntsville and Birmingham. The city of Cullman was founded in 1873 by Colonel John G. Cullmann, a German refugee. Cullmann purchased 349 acres from the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company to start the town of Cullman. According to the 2006 census over 16,000 people live in the city of Cullman.

According to the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce, Cullman County has the highest agricultural production in the state of Alabama and is one of the sixty largest agricultural producing counties in the United States. Outdoor recreation is also a major player in the Cullman economy with thousands of people flocking to Smith Lake each year. Smith Lake is 21,000 acres and has over 500 miles of shore line and water depths as deep as 60 and 70 feet.

Cullman, Alabama has several major interstates and highways that service the Cullman area, including: Interstate 65; Highway 31; U.S. Highway 278; Alabama Highway 69; and Alabama Highway 157.
