Dothan, Alabama

The city of Dothan is located in Houston County in southeast corner of Alabama twenty minutes west of the Georgia state line and eighteen miles north of the Florida state line. The city of Dothan was incorporated in November 1885. The Dothan area was originally inhabited by the Alabama and Creek Indian tribes.

According to the US census bureau over 65,000 people live in Dothan, Alabama. About ¼ of the U.S. peanut crop is harvested within 75 miles of the city of Dothan. As a result of this, Dothan refers to itself as the Peanut Capital of the World. Dothan is home to the Joseph M. Farely Nuclear Generating Station. The two largest employers in the Dothan area are Southeast Alabama Medical Center and Flowers Hospital. Dothan is also know for its great golf and is the home to one of eleven Alabama sites for the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
