Mobile, AL car accident - Martinson & Beason, P.C.Recently, a tragic accident in Mobile, Alabama resulted in the death of one person, according to Mobile police. The accident occurred in in the George Wallace Tunnel in Mobile on December 29th. Seven or eight vehicles were involved in the accident, including a motorcycle. The accident was caused by dump trucks that had leaked diesel onto several lanes in the tunnel.

In a separate car accident just a couple weeks before the accident in the George Wallace Tunnel, a man was killed. The man, who was apparently speeding on Cochrane Causeway, collided with a tractor trailer. He was found dead at the scene. Most likely a factor in his death was the fact that was not wearing a seat belt when he collided with the truck. The crash is still being investigated by Traffic Homicide Detectives in Mobile. Wearing your seat belt is extremely important. We encourage everyone to buckle up and remind their passengers (//www.martinsonandbeason.com/practice-areas/car-accidents-huntsville-alabama/passenger-safety/) to wear their seat belt as well.

As the third-largest city in Alabama, Mobile is the location for many of Alabama’s deadly car accidents. According to the Alabama Department of Safety, Alabama saw 774 fatal accidents in 2009 (the latest data available). 290 of those fatalities occurred in urban areas in cities such as Mobile.

Accidents involving large trucks are particularly serious due to the sheer size and weight of tractor trailers. Both of the fatal accidents above involved trucks. When driving on a road with a large truck or semi, make sure to leave plenty of space between your car and the truck. The weight of trucks causes them to take longer to come to a stop, according to Road Safe America.
