Have you Experienced a Bleeding Episode from Xarelto?

August 4, 2015 by Morris Lilienthal

Xarelto Alabama injury attorneysIf you’ve taken Xarelto and experienced serious side effects, you’re not alone.

The attorneys at Martinson & Beason, P.C. have prepared the following information to inform you of your rights and entitlements if you have suffered from taking Xarelto:

What is Xarelto?

Xarelto is a prescription medication used to treat deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, the forming of a blood clot in the legs and lungs of people who have just had knee or hip replacement surgery and to help reduce the risk of these conditions occurring again. Xarelto is also used to treat people with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) and reduce the risk of stroke. People suffering from atrial fibrillation are at an increased risk of forming a blood clot in the heart, which can travel to the brain, causing a stroke, or other parts of the body. The likelihood of being or knowing someone affected by complications from Xarelto are great: sales exceeded $1 Billion in 2014, and the manufacturer increased Xarelto’s projected earnings from 20% to 30% in the first quarter of 2015. How to Keep Your Family Safe on the Fourth of July

July 2, 2015 by Doug Martinson, II

SparklersLast month, we compiled a list of firework shows and other fun Independence Day activities for you and your family to enjoy around Huntsville, AL. But it’s also important to stay safe at this celebratory time of year.

Not to bring down the excitement, but the Fourth of July is the deadliest holiday of the year. You might not think so, but this weekend has seen more traffic-related injuries and fatalities than any other weekend—even more than New Years Eve and New Years Day.

Watch Out for Drunk Drivers on the Road

Many of these accidents are caused by drunk or even buzzed drivers. In fact, from 2009 to 2013, roughly 40 percent of crash-related deaths during this holiday involved a drunk driver. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a total of 750 people died in crashes with drivers who had a BAC of .08 or higher.

If you are going to be out on the roads this Fourth of July weekend, it is crucial that you know the warning signs of a drunk or buzzed driver. Take this time to practice defensive driving, for your safety and the safety of those around you—it could save your life. Some tips to keep in mind include:

  • Leave plenty of space between you and the vehicle ahead of you
  • Brake early
  • Always use your turn signals with plenty of warning
  • Look both ways before turning into oncoming traffic
  • Look over your shoulder in addition to using your mirrors when changing lanes
  • Stay alert, and keep the distractions in your car to a minimum
  • Keep to the speed limit

If you are going to be the one behind the wheel, it is critical that you are well aware of your surroundings at all times. If you are going to drink, don’t drive. One drink is too many. Don’t put your life—or anybody else’s life—at risk.

How to Find the Right Motorcycle Helmet

August 29, 2014 by Morris Lilienthal

Motorcycle helmet | Accident Lawyer | Huntsville, ALAt Martinson & Beason, P.C., we strongly recommend that you wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle. A helmet can’t prevent a motorcycle crash, but it can save your life if a crash ever happens. It can also make a ride more enjoyable, cutting down on wind and protecting your face from flying insects and debris.

However, you can’t wear just any helmet when riding a motorcycle. Different helmets are designed for certain activities. Just like you wouldn’t wear a construction hard hat when playing football, you shouldn’t wear a helmet not designed for motorcycle use during your ride. Distracted Walking Is a Danger to Pedestrians

August 25, 2014 by Morris Lilienthal

Distracted walking | Pedestrian Accident Lawyer | Huntsville, ALCell phones are a marvel of technology that offers the opportunity to be connected at nearly any time and in nearly any place. Just because they offer this opportunity, however, doesn’t mean that we should necessarily take it.

In recent years, there has been a fair amount of public backlash over the constant use of smartphones. Over-use in public settings, like restaurants and movie theaters, has been deemed rude and obnoxious. Games have been created to reward people for not using their cell phones. (Consider the game that has restaurant guests placing their phones in the center of the table during the meal, and whoever reaches for his or her phone first pays the bill). And a recent prankster garnered millions of YouTube hits after he uploaded a video of himself “crashing” other people’s cell phone conversations in an airport. Truck Driver Charged, Wal-Mart Sued for Accident that Injured Tracy Morgan

August 15, 2014 by Morris Lilienthal

Semi truck | Car Accident Lawyer | Huntsville, ALIn June, Tracy Morgan made news, not for his comedy tour or his work on “30 Rock” or “Saturday Night Live,” but for the injuries he sustained during a serious car accident caused by a semi truck driver.

According to ABC News, police believe that the truck driver had fallen asleep at the wheel.

New Jersey State Police Sgt. First Class Gregory Williams said, “Driver failed to observe slow-moving traffic ahead. He observed at the last minute—just prior to impact—the limo bus carrying Morgan and his party.” [Read more…] about Truck Driver Charged, Wal-Mart Sued for Accident that Injured Tracy Morgan

Documents Show Carnival Knew about Cruise Safety Hazards

May 29, 2014 by Doug Martinson, II

Cruise Ship | Personal Injury Lawyer | Huntsville, AL | Martinson & Beason, P.C.By now, you’ve surely heard of the disaster on the Carnival Triumph cruise ship. In February 2013 and the following months, the ill-fated voyage was all over the news.

While the ship was at sea, a fire broke out in the engine room, causing the ship to lose power. Though there were some emergency generators, the ship was left to drift for 150 miles in the Gulf of Mexico.

Fortunately, no one was hurt in the fire; however, passengers and crew on the ship were forced to endure days of allegedly unsanitary conditions. [Read more…] about Documents Show Carnival Knew about Cruise Safety Hazards
