The next episode of the Mo Show Live will air Wednesday February 19th at 3:00 PM central time and will feature David Whiteside of the Tennessee Riverkeeper organization. Morris and David will be discussing the organization’s role in protecting the environment, including through enforcement, advocacy, and education.

David Whiteside became involved with Waterkeeper Alliance during the Summer of 1998, when he accepted a job from Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., his godfather and the current President of Waterkeeper Alliance. After graduating from the University of Vermont with a degree in Environmental Studies, David founded the Black Warrior Riverkeeper in September of 2001. In 2009, David founded Tennessee Riverkeeper with environmental attorney Mark Martin. Since that time, David has served as Executive Director and Riverkeeper. Whiteside’s maternal family has fought for civil rights in Alabama for over 150 years. David’s great-uncle, Judge Frank M. Johnson, Jr., made a number of landmark civil rights rulings that helped end segregation in the South.

Tennessee Riverkeeper monitors polluters and their pollution permits, responds to citizen complaints, and utilizes other methods to further protect the Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers and their tributaries. When the organization discovers illegal pollution, it seeks enforcement of environmental laws. The need for this nonprofit organization arose after the TVA Kingston coal ash disaster in December 2008.
