The next episode of the Mo Show Live will air Wednesday, July 18th at 3:00 PM central time and will feature Christy Crow, the Alabama Bar Association President-Elect. Morris and Christy will be discussing how the Alabama Bar Association serves its members and the public-at-large.
Christy Crow was born in Fresno, California, but has deep family roots in Hamilton, Alabama, and spent the majority of her childhood years in Prattville. She graduated with a degree in Accounting from Auburn University in 1994 and received her J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law. In 1997, Christy returned to Union Springs to practice law with Jinks, Smithart, Jackson & Daniel, which is now known as Jinks, Crow & Dickson, P.C. Throughout her twenty years’ experience in civil litigation, Christy has represented countless clients in personal injury, wrongful death, product liability, and other actions.
In 2005, Christy was elected as the second female President of the Young Lawyers Section of the Bar. As YLS President, she expanded programs for minority high school students interested in the practice of law. She has also served as Treasurer of the Women’s Section of the Bar and chaired the Bar’s Pro Bono Celebration Task Force. She is also a Fellow of the Alabama Law Foundation and Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. Christy remains active in her Union Springs community, having coached basketball and baseball, taught Sunday School and served on the Chunnenuggee Fair Committee.
The Alabama Bar Association is the official governing body of lawyers in Alabama. The Bar was created by the Alabama Legislature in 1923 and has continuously served lawyers and the public since that time. However, the Bar traces its roots to 1878 when the Bar formed on a voluntary basis. The Bar is “dedicated to promoting the professional responsibility and competence of its members, improving the administration of justice and increasing the public understanding of and respect for the law.”
Currently, there are 11,873 in-state regular members and 1,858 out-of-state regular members. The Bar also counts special members and new admittees for a total membership of 18,200. While the demographics are slowly shifting, men make up about 2/3 of Bar members.
The President-Elect of the Alabama State Bar serves a one-year term in preparation to take over as President. The President-Elect performs duties as assigned by the President. The President-Elect also takes over if the President is unable to complete his or her term due to disability or death.
