A young man was killed in a one-vehicle accident near Athens, Alabama early Sunday morning, the Athens News-Courier reports. The fatal wreck occurred on Alabama Highway 99 just north of Athens. The victim was in the process of moving from Birmingham, Alabama to Minor Hill, Tennessee. Sheriff’s deputies report the man was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. According to reports, the man’s mother was travelling the same route through Athens, Alabama, but at some distance behind him. When she reached Minor Hill but he did not, she immediately notified authorities. The victim’s vehicle flipped several times about ten miles north of Athens near the Elk River Bridge.
